Featuring Lost Romanian Puppy and Night Vigil
Lost Romanian Puppy Jockeyed by Natasha Paige
Night Vigil Jockeyed by Myra Collins
Myra lifted herself up into the saddle, settling lightly into the seat. She walked Night Vigil around the starting gates a few times, allowing her to become accustomed to them before her workout with Roma. A few minutes passed by until Myra finally saw the big chestnut colt lead by his jockey and trainer. Xaria and Natasha paused a few feet from Night Vigil. Xaria held the reins to Roma's bridle while Natasha mounted. "Hello." Myra said as the rest of the team came to her. Xaria and Natasha smiled and returned the greeting. "Let's get this show on the road." Xaria said.
After Xaria had given the jockeys their instructions for their race, the horses were loaded into the gate. Lost Romanian Puppy was already loaded and was waiting patiently for Night Vigil. The black filly kept shying whenever they reached the metal gates. After a lot of coaxing, they finally got Raven into the gate. She trotted in place, her legs shuffling nervously. "It's okay, girl. You"ll be fine." Myra said soothingly. Xaria yelled, "launching in 3..." Myra loved when Xaria sent them out of the gate like that. It reminded her of a rocket heading off to space. Myra looked over at Natasha, then focused on Night Vigil and counted off the seconds in her head. Before long, the bell rang and both horses lunged out of the gate.
Roma instantly took the lead as he hugged the rail. Raven stayed close on his tracks, her head at about his torso. The two juveniles raced along the track, Night Vigil still trailing along. Myra could sense the filly preparing for her burst of speed once they reached the final stretch. Myra could see Natasha urging Roma on as lengthened his stride. "Now!" Myra yelled to Raven. The filly instantly took action, though a little too late. Once they reached the finish line, Night Vigil has lost just by a head. Myra pulled her in, reducing her speed to a canter; Natasha did the same. The two horses and jockeys regrouped, meeting with Xaria. She greeted them both a smile. "You guys did great! Though it was a bit unfair to Raven racing against a colt. A 16.1 hand colt at that." Xaria pat Raven's neck. "Anyways, great workout today, guys." Natasha and Myra smiled and said "thanks" at the same time. The two jockeys dismounted, then started to head up to the stable with Xaria.
